GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel has earned a Successful Meetings 2016 Pinnacle Award for the Best Hotel Décor/Design in the Midwest Region for 2016. The historic hotel was chosen as one of the top-five candidates in the region for one of the newest categories to debut in this year's 30th annual Pinnacle Awards.

"The Amway Grand Plaza has created an aesthetic that preserves the hotel's historic beauty while incorporating contemporary, urban design details," said Mike Donnelly, general manager of the Amway Grand Plaza. "We are thrilled and honored to accept this award recognizing our efforts."

In December 2014, the Amway Grand Plaza unveiled a $14 million renovation to the 285-room modern glass tower. The hotel worked with Chicago-based Gooch Design Studio and local firm, Haworth Designs, on a modern redesign that caters to a new generation of travelers looking for both business and leisure accommodations. The renovation includes two design concepts intended to shift the energy from one floor to another by providing the look and feel of a luxury condo as well as urban exuberance that reflects the youthful renaissance of Grand Rapids.

Highlights of the glass tower include newly designed corridors and guestrooms that pay tribute to the 16-foot tall crystal chandeliers that have lit the famous Pantlind Lobby at the Amway Grand Plaza for the past century. Fashioned after English Adams architecture and designed with a special attention to detail, the Pantlind Lobby features one of the world's largest gold-leaf ceilings - a design element that is famously-known throughout the Midwest.

Presented annually, the Pinnacle Awards are nominated by decision-makers for planning meetings, events, conferences and incentive programs in the U.S. and worldwide, including clients and third party planners and vendors. All winners will be listed in Successful Meetings' annual Pinnacle Registry, published in the August 2016 issue and online.
